WORLD CUP 2011 - by KAVISH
I would like to express my opinion about India's second win in the world cup 2011 . India won the world cup for the second time after 28 years. The first win was in 1983. I was only 11 years old and It was my first world cup ,not knowing about the significance of winning a world cup i wondered why everyone was sooo happy. The entire team wanted to dedicate the win to Sachin Tendulkar as it was his last world cup. I clearly remember that in 2007 ODI world cup after being knocked out by Bangladesh, Sachin had thought of retirement and It took lot of convincing by his brother to continue playing the game. Also when all the senior players had opted not to play the first T20 world cup that year which later India won under the captaincy of young MS Dhoni . Hence This world cup was very special to all of the team but more to Sachin who didnot move from his chair until the last winning six was played . Also coach Gary Kirsten played a key role in this win as he did not let team India take any pressure. There cannot be a greater way to play in your last world cup than to win it. Also it is worth mentioning that Yuvraj singh had struggled with his health during that time but it didnot stop him from playing a key role not only with his batting but also with his bowling. Whenever captain Dhoni turned to yuvraj for breaking the essential partnership yuvraj singh with his marvellous bowling every time met his captain's expectations.
This is my first blog and this was my first world cup so I think this win was the most special and close to my heart. . I didnot realize back then what winning a world cup means not only to the players but to the entire nation. Until then no team had won the world cup in their home country. Though I was very happy but I clearly remember my feelings which cannot be described in words. This is the time I realized that I not only love cricket but this game has given a new meaning to my life. Being 11 years old and having undergone multiple surgeries , where my day started and ended with therapies Cricket gave me something to look forward to and it still does to this day.
Great observation!! Good job..keep it up!!!
